Anastos Announces 2011-12 Hockey Schedule

Eighteen home games, including representatives from four of the five ice hockey conferences, awaits the Michigan State hockey team in its first season under new head coach Tom Anastos. The Spartans will host three of the four Big Ten teams at Munn Ice Arena for two games each, as well as play in the season-opening Icebreaker Tournament at North Dakota. Goaltender John Gibson was picked in the second round (39th overall) by the Anaheim Ducks and defenseman Brennan Serville was taken by the Winnipeg Jets in the third round (78th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.

Essensa Helps Thomas, Bruins to Stanley Cup

With the Boston Bruins capturing the most beloved trophy in professional sports, former MSU goaltender and current Bruins goalie coach Bob Essensa became the 10th Spartan – and seventh in the last six seasons – to win the Stanley Cup. Essensa’s night was a bit sweeter, as his pupil, goaltender Tim Thomas, also earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Stanley Cup Playoff Most Valuable Player.

Former Standout Kampfer Hoists Stanley Cup with Boston Bruins

Former Wolverine defenseman and Jackson, Mich., native Steve Kampfer (2007-10) is the 17th U-M alumnus to raise the Stanley Cup after the Boston Bruins blanked the Vancouver Canucks, 4-0, in game seven.
