Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Minnesota, 3-0

Behind a balanced offensive attack, the Michigan State women’s soccer team shut out Minnesota, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at DeMartin Stadium. Three different players scored goals for the Spartans, who improved to 9-2-1 (2-1 Big Ten), while goalkeeper Jill Flietstra recorded her Big Ten-leading fifth shutout of the season.

Hoosiers Earn First Big Ten Win After Second Half Rally Against Nebraska

Playing in a steady rain the entire game, the Indiana Hoosiers (5-5-1, 1-2 Big Ten) scored a pair of second half goals to post a come-from-behind win against the Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-4-1, 2-1 Big Ten) in their first trip to Bloomington as a member of the Big Ten Conference. Orianica Velasquez scored the equalizer in the 71st minute and Devon Beach put home the winning marker in the 81st minute for the Hoosiers.

#22 Fighting Illini Drop Road Contest at Penn State, 1-0

The No. 22 nationally-ranked Illinois soccer team was shutout for the first time on the 2011 season, falling at Penn State, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon to conclude a five-game road stretch, the longest regular season streak in program history.

Spartans Fall in Big Ten Home Opener

The Spartans fought hard in a physical match in the Big Ten home opener against Wisconsin but fell 2-1 after a late Badger goal in the 84th minute. Senior forward Laura Heyboer tied the score for the Spartans, netting her 14th goal of season. Heyboer leads the nation in total goals scored.

U-M held a one-goal halftime lead thanks to tallies from Nkem Ezurike and Clare Stachel, but Minnesota rallied for two scores in the second half, including the winner with 58 seconds remaining, in a 3-2 final.
