Talcott Receives Player of the Week Honor
University of Iowa freshman Shelby Talcott has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. It is Iowa’s first weekly honor of the season. Sonja Molnar was the last Hawkeye to garner the weekly award (March 22, 2011).
Wolverines to Open Fall Play at Spartan Invitational
Michigan will participate in six fall events, kicking off the season with a three-day tournament at Michigan State (Fri-Sun., Sept. 23-25).

Adidas Hoosier Classic Opens 2011-12 Tennis Season
The Indiana women’s tennis team hosts the adidas Hoosier Classic on Sept. 23-25 to open the 2011-12 season. The Hoosiers will welcome Georgia, Kansas State, Notre Dame and members of Abilene Christian to the IU tennis courts this weekend.
Illini Wrap Up Weekend at Duke Invite
The Illini women’s tennis team ended play at the Duke Fab Four Invitational Sunday afternoon. After an incredible debut weekend from freshman Melissa Kopinski, the newcomer came up short in her third-place match in the black bracket, falling to 2-2 on the weekend in singles action.
Hawkeyes Claim 4 Titles at Gopher Invitational
The University of Iowa women’s tennis team concluded play at the Gopher Invitational on Sunday. Senior Sonja Molnar and freshman Ellen Silver won their bracket championship, while sophomore Christina Harazin claimed the consolation championship in the McNabb Singles Flight. Molnar also claimed a doubles title, as she teamed with freshman Shelby Talcott to win the Koivu Doubles Flight Championship. The Hawkeyes posted a 24-5 singles record and a 10-4 doubles record over the three-day event.
Hawkeyes Successful in Singles
The University of Iowa women’s tennis competed in day two of the Gopher Invitational on Saturday. The Hawkeyes dominated in singles, posting a 13-1 record. In addition, Iowa saw five individuals improve their singles record to 3-0 for the tournament. The Hawkeyes went 3-1 in doubles play.
Illini Continue Action at Duke Invite
The Illini women’s tennis team captured three singles matches Saturday in day two at the Duke Fab Four Invitational. Sophomore Allison Falkin and freshman Melissa Kopinski each claimed their second singles victories of the tournament, while senior Amy Allin secured her first win of the fall season.
